Yahweh uses the innocence of children to reveal to us our spiritual blindness, yet oftentimes it is through that blindness that we corrupt our children’s innocence.
Matthew 18:2And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, 3And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
The writings of C.S. Lewis, as well as J.R.R Tolkien are especially nefarious in regard to corrupting the innocence of children as they are the primary audience. Both series are saturated in witchcraft, paganism, and mystic lore and I am fully convinced that both Lewis and Tolkin were very much intentional in who they were targeting within their audience through their writings. Once children are desensitized to an area of sinful behavior the more innocence they lose. Eventually, those same children become adults that perpetuate the same cycle upon their own children. This is how sin, and sin cycles become generational. This is why Jesus/Yeshua took it quite seriously to those who put a stumbling block before children:
Matthew 18:6“But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea. 7Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes!
It is a great cause for concern when so many praise Lewis for being a follower of Christ, yet scripture says those who promote these kinds of writings/practices, especially aimed at children will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
Revelation 21:8 – But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Through the writings of not only Lewis but Tolkien a great many have been lured into occult fantasy and promoting such work as being compatible with the bible. This desensitization into the occult and witchcraft has allowed Satan to get a stronghold in many professing believers lives, as well as entire congregations.
Short Background
When I was first introduced to C.S. Lewis, being new in my faith, I bought a few of his books. The first book that I read was Screwtape Letters, and from my memory of almost 20 years ago, I can vaguely recall the dialogue between demons and their agenda against humanity. Even though I felt like I was given a glimpse into the mind and workings of the enemy, I felt uneasy, as if the demons I was reading about were also carefully watching me at the same time. It was incredibly eerie and demonic.
Sometime later, I had begun to read Mere Christianity, however, due to the restraint of the Holy Spirit, I was unable to finish. I tried at several attempts to read this book, yet, due to whatever circumstance at the time, I never came to finish reading it. So, for several years, these books sat on my bookshelf and traveled with me for many years until I was mature enough to discern that Lewis was a false worker and then books went into the trash.
This discernment began with seeing the Chronicles of Narnia movie in theaters. I distinctly remember looking over at a small child and seeing the horror in his young innocent face of what he was watching. It was more than just a battle scene; it was a glimpse into my own desensitization to what I myself was watching. This same thing happened years later with my own daughter as my husband was watching Lord of the Rings, and she came out and saw the movie. The terror that she saw, pierced through my heart like a sword, and I suddenly saw through a child’s eyes and was convicted. I literally became horrified as to what we were watching, and we came to get rid of those movies a short time later.
Part I. Occultic Fantasy
Occultism is defined by the use of sorcery, magic, witchcraft and Fantasy, according to Wikipedia is a “genre of speculative fiction involving magical elements, typically set in a fictional universe and sometimes inspired by mythology and folklore. Most fantasy uses magic or other supernatural elements as a main plot element, theme, or setting. Magic, magic practitioners (sorcerers, witches and so on) and magical creatures are common in many of these worlds.”
So, we can see that occultic fantasy involves magic, witchcraft or sorcery that may include mythology and folklore which takes place in a fictional universe. This describes exactly what both C.S. Lewis, and J.R.R. Tolkin, have created with both The Chronicles of Narnia, and Lord of the Rings.
Yahweh has throughout His word condemned any form of magic:
♦Leviticus 19:31 – Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.
♦Deuteronomy 18:10There shall not be found among you [any one] that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, [or] an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, 11or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer
♦2 Chronicles 33:6 – And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.
♦Galatians 5:19The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery;20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Yet, many professing believers are entrenched in it through the guise of “fantasy”. This is not limited to books, but includes movies, board games and video games. Many will even know that magic is wrong, that it clearly states such in the Bible, but will justify the practice because it is not done or “practiced” here in the natural realm.
Sinful behavior condemned by Yah, does not suddenly become acceptable because it changes locations to a fantasy realm. However, there are professing believers who claim this to be true. This is originally from a Facebook post in which the author/ministry proposed this question:
“New Episode…Today’s question says, “should I let my children watch shows and movies with magic, witches and sorcerers when the Bible says to avoid these things?”
Following the question was a link to an article/podcast that was titled: “Witchcraft, Magic, and Sorcery in Media“.
Within her article, the author quotes several Bible passages condemning the use of magic, sorcery, witchcraft and the like, but claims that the use of such within a fantasy realm is acceptable. Her opening statement was incredibly sobering at the spiritual condition of so many Christians, and what I also believe helped to justify her position. That since C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkin are highly praised within the Christian community, and no one is concerned that they are filled with magic, the reason must because it is “only fantasy”. Instead of sticking with God’s word on the matter she reasons with her own understanding and deviates away from the truth. And just like that she becomes like the very ones she speaks of.
Romans 1:32who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.
The following is my response to specific points in the article, which I commented on the Facebook post.
“However, for some reason, CS Lewis and JRR Tolkin seem to get a pass that nobody’s in the Christian community seems to be really concerned with the fact that there’s magic in Narnia or there’s magic in middle Earth.”
This is because many professing Christians lack the maturity and discernment to know that both C.S. Lewis and J.R.R Tolkin were not true followers of Jesus, based upon not only their works of occultic fantasy but other heretical doctrinal beliefs. C.S. Lewis believed in a universal salvation, in that a person did not have to accept Jesus to be saved.
“Mere Christianity”
“There are people in other religions who are being led by God’s secret influence to concentrate on those parts of their religion which are in agreement with Christianity, and who thus belong to Christ without knowing it. For example, a Buddhist of good will may be led to concentrate more and more on the Buddhist teaching about mercy and to leave in the background (though he might still say he believed) the Buddhist teaching on certain other points.
Many of the good Pagans long before Christ’s birth may have been in this position. And always, of course, there are a great many people who are just confused in mind and have a lot of inconsistent beliefs all jumbled up together.” Pg. 99
These heretical beliefs are actually held throughout the Narnia series, as many pagan practices, creatures, and beliefs are directly incorporated within and accepted as “good”. This is all quite contrary to Scripture. (Lev 18:3, 20:23, Deut 12:30-31, Jer 10:2)
Not only that, but many compare the Narnia series to biblical allegory. This means that Lucy, who practices magic, seen approved by Aslan, then it is portrayed as Jesus is pleased with Christians who practice magic for “good”. This is highly deceptive for children to be subject to, as well as other conflicting biblical distortions, such as Mr. Beaver telling the children that the White Witch is descended from Lilith, who is the “first wife” of Adam.
As a young Christian many years ago, I had bought several C.S. Lewis books, and even read a couple of them, but was eventually led by the Holy Spirit to repent of these books, because Scripture is clear that those who practice sorcery will not enter the Kingdom. I can understand how many young in the faith can be misled by this as we are warned in Scripture that Satan can appear as an angel of light. I appreciate you bringing forth the biblical standard on magic, however, instead of leaving it there, and standing on that biblical standard, you made justification based on whether magic/sorcery is taking place within a fantasy land, or “reality”.
You stated: “It’s just in a pretend land. So stories like that, stories like Narnia, stories like The Hobbit or the Lord of the Rings, fairy tales, they’re not necessarily encouraging the practice of magic or witchcraft because they’re taking place in another land.”
Scripture does not separate the level of practicing magic by placing it into a “fantasy”, in fact scripture says that we are to destroy any “thought or fantasy” that is against God.
♦2 Cor 10:4The weapons of our warfare are not the weapons of the world. Instead, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5We tear down arguments and every presumption set up against the knowledge of God; and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 6And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, as soon as your obedience is complete
If we were to continue with the logic you have presented here, that magic becomes void or rather “not encouraged” if it is in a fantasy land, then we can assume all other sins are equally applied, murder, fornication, drunkenness, etc. within that same realm.
Fantasy, for the most part defined by our culture, is a realm in which sin can be expressed and encouraged, without the actual physical act being done or made accountable. Many professing Christians have also accepted this view with not just movies, but other forms of entertainment.
When we redefine, what sin is, which you have also done here, by making our own line, it becomes ironically witchcraft, as it is rebellion to God’s word (1 Sam 15:23), and the line He has already drawn on the subject.
♦Rev 21:8But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Stating that movies like Narnia, Lord of the Rings, or Disney’s Cinderella are not inherently wrong, but rather what a child “perceives” or takes from it, is very dangerous and not at all in alignment with scripture. It is redefining what God calls evil, to good. I encourage you to rethink what you have written here, as those who are in ministry, or teaching others are held to a higher standard and accountability to handle the word righteously.”
The author here is obviously incredibly deceived and really should not be in a ministry position to teach on these matters. So, I want to emphasize my last sentence above, that those who are in leadership/ministry positions will be held to a higher judgement. Those who are in leadership, having an understanding of the word, that actively promote the use of magic/witchcraft and sorcery through fantasy, have absolutely no excuse.
James 3:1My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment.
Part II. Light Side/Dark Side
As I mentioned above within my reply is that there are many professing Christians, to include pastors and ministry leaders that not only compare the Narnia series, but the Lord of the Rings series to biblical allegory. That the characters of Aslan and Gandalf are a type of Yeshua/Jesus.
The problem is, they are saying that the light side of darkness is good, that darkness, or evil only appears one way. This proves that they are very much deceived by those who can appear as an angel of light.
2 Cor 11:13For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. 14And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. 15Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.
While the character Aslan takes on the appearance of “light” or good, which fights “dark” or evil, both sides belong to the same source. Both are evil, as Satan can appear as both light and dark, good and evil. This is why you have those who are Satanists, which take on a much darker side, and Luciferians, which take on a lighter side as Lucifer means “Light Bearer”. This “light side”/”dark side” is an occultic concept called duality in which both sides are interconnected with one another. The yin/yang is a perfect example of this and many who are familiar with the Star Wars movies would know this as the “force”.
The concept is that evil is not evil if it can be channeled for good. This is where we get white and black magic, or a good and bad witch.
Within the Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader, the character Lucy finds a book of Incantations or spells and begins to read them. This is a small child actively engaging in spells/incantations while making it appear fun and alluring. Taking what is evil, and making it look good.
Isa 20:20Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
Within the book of Acts when those who had practiced the magic arts heard the gospel, they destroyed their occultic books:
Acts 19:19Also, many of those who had practiced magic brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted up the value of them, and it totaled fifty thousand pieces of silver. 20So the word of the Lord grew mightily and prevailed.
I find it highly unlikely that in the 30 years or so that C.S. Lewis professed to be a Christian that he never came across this passage or any other passage within the Bible that condemned the use of magic spells. What makes this so much more wicked is that the spells that were read from this book of incantations, were only effective if they were read by a young girl, or the magician who made those spells.
Why a young girl? A child?
I believe it is done to hinder a child from coming to Yeshua. It is steering a child away from the truth and into a lie. Jesus said, “Do not hinder a child from coming to me” (Mat 19:14) To hinder a child, is to prevent or stop them in some way. C.S. Lewis through his own mind and heart, transcribed a written work that would throughout generations impede the minds of young children through the witchcraft that is Narnia.
Let us continue.
Lucy is to find a spell that will reverse a previous spell made by a young girl, that turned inhabitants invisible. So, the message here, is using magic for good. Shortly after Lucy says this last spell, Aslan appears.
Here is an excerpt from Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader:
For what stood in the doorway was Aslan himself, The Lion, the highest of all High Kings. And he was solid and real and warm and he let her kiss him and bury herself in his shining mane. And from the low, earthquake-like sound that came from inside him, Lucy even dared to think that he was purring.
“Oh, Aslan,” said she, “it was kind of you to come.”
“I have been here all the time,” said he, “but you have just made me visible.”
Now, to make Aslan a type of Yeshua/Jesus here, this would mean that not only did he approve of what Lucy did but was obliged to become visible due to a spell that Lucy spoke. This is highly deceptive and confusing to a child that is taught this. This lion is appearing as good but is devouring the innocence of children.
1 Peter 5:8Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
The lion Aslan represents the “light side” or Lucifer, while the white witch Jadis, represents the “dark side” or the female aspect of Satan. You can even look back above at the yin/yang picture and see the specific qualities that represent each one. This same light/dark is presented in Lord of the Rings between Gandalf and Sauron.
Gandalf, is a wizard, but uses his magic in a way that defeats the evil of Sauron. Can evil defeat evil?
Romans 12:21Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
The scriptures say that witchcraft is evil, therefore it cannot not overcome what it already is. Yet, Satan has deceived many to believe otherwise. Deception happens because of something that is already there within the heart, that the discerning eye is blind to, and Satan uses that to his advantage. To believe that evil can defeat evil, is to be overcome by evil. To seek after a wizard, rather than Yahweh, is to seek after familiar spirits and to be overtaken by them.
Isa 8:19And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead? 20To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
In one of the final battle scenes within Lord of the Rings, Gandalf is seen riding a white horse through a field, dressed in a brilliant white. He raises up his magic staff and a bright light proceeds forth defeating the flying dragons.
This scene depicts exactly what high level occultist/theosophist H.P Blavatsky has to say of the light of Lucifer:
“Meanwhile, Lucifer-Venus has nought to do with darkness, and everything with light. When called Lucifer, it is the “light bringer,” the first radiant beam which destroys the lethal darkness of night.”
Notice in another picture here from the end battle scene, the specific use of colors, that again reflect the yin/yang qualities. Gandalf is white, and those following him are glowing a warm, and fiery orange. The opposing army is dark, grey and cold. Evil (light side) opposing evil (dark side)
I find that this entire scene is a mockery to what is depicted within the book of Revelation:
Revelation 19:11Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. 12His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. 13He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses.
This is not the only comparison either, as Gandalf goes through a type of death and resurrection which also is referenced with the character Aslan. While these depictions present a type of Messiah, this is anti-Messiah.
I don’t find it to be a coincidence as Satan is always trying to exalt himself as Yahweh. To make Gandalf a type of Yeshua is quite blasphemous. To take what is stated in scripture and to flip it upside down, turning Yeshua into a wizard, that saves the world through magic.
Part III. Mythical Creatures within Narnia
The many creatures that dwell in Narnia are taken from different pagan mythologies, such as Norse, Greek, and Roman to name just a few. Lewis mixes these pagan mythologies with Christian undertones and several of these creatures and their origin are quite disturbing. While I am sure I could spend quite a bit of time elaborating on several of them, I have chosen to speak on only a few.
Faun/Satyr
Fauns were creatures which were half human and half goat, much like satyrs, except they had a face like a human unlike the satyrs that took on a more goat like appearance. They enjoy dancing around bonfires playing on musical instruments, typically a flute or pipe. They were found within Aslan’s camp which fought against the white witch. The main faun character is Mr. Tumnus.
According to Encyclopedia Britanica, Fauns come from Roman mythology and is liken to the Greek satyr. “The name faun is derived from Faunus, the name of an ancient Italic deity of forests, fields, and herds, who from the 2nd century BCE was associated with the Greek god Pan.”
The Greek god Pan is a fertility god with all sorts of sexual perversities. From my research over the years the festivals which honored fertility gods were the most perverse, which contained lewd debauchery and drunkenness. This pagan ritual is mentioned within the opening chapters of Chronicles of Narnia: Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe after Lucy meets Mr. Tumnus and goes back to his dwelling.
“And when Lucy was tired of eating the Faun began to talk. He had wonderful tales to tell of life in the forest. He told about the midnight dances and how the Nymphs who lived in the wells and the Dryads who lived in the trees came out to dance with the Fauns; about long hunting parties after the milk-white stag who could give you wishes if you caught him; about feasting and treasure-seeking with the wild Red Dwarfs in deep mines and caverns far beneath the forest floor; and then about summer when the woods were green and old Silenus on his fat donkey would come to visit them, and sometimes Bacchus himself, and then the streams would run with wine instead of water and the whole forest would give itself up to jollification for weeks on end.”
Midnight dances, tales with Silenus and Bacchus (Greek gods of wine) all describe pagan solstices and full moon rituals. The whole forest giving itself up to “jollification” during the summer, speaks of the summer solstice, probably midsummer, as magic is considered strongest at this time.
Satyrs, are really quite synonymous with Roman faun, and Greek pan yet in earlier were also considered to not have so much of a goat appearance, but rather that of a horse. Within the Narnia series they fought in the army of Aslan and were humanoid figures with a full goat head. Now, I am not going to go into full detail of what the Satyr actually looked like but let’s just say that it gives full recognition to the perverse sexual nature of this creature.
This is some pretty sick stuff for a professing Christian to not only have in their mind, but also to create an entire world of creatures surrounding these origins. Ultimately, these pagan mythological creatures are demons. Interestingly enough, the bible actually mentions satyr a couple of times within the book of Isaiah to represent a demon.
Isa 34:14The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the satyr shall cry to his fellow; the screech owl also shall rest there, and find for herself a place of rest.
Ellicott’s Commentary for English Readers
(14) The wild beasts of the desert . . .–Better, wild cats or hyenas shall meet wolves. The nouns that follow belong, apparently, to the region of mythical zoology. The English “satyr” expresses fairly enough the idea of a “demon-brute” haunting the waste places of the palaces of Edom, while the “screech-owl” is the Lilith, the she-vampire, who appears in the legends of the Talmud as having been Adam’s first wife, who left him and was turned into a demon. With the later Jews, Lilith, as sucking the blood of children, was the bugbear of the nursery. Night-vampire would, perhaps, be the best rendering.
Isa 13:21But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there.
21. satyrs shall dance there] The noun also means “goats,” as in Genesis 37:31; but the old translations have mostly perceived that goatshaped demons are here intended (so also in ch. Isaiah 34:14), the same beings to which Jewish superstition offered sacrifices (Leviticus 17:7; 2 Chronicles 11:15—A.V. “devils”). The transition from the natural to the supernatural seems strange to our minds, but in the East the belief in weird creatures (jinn) inhabiting waste places and dangerous spots is a commonplace.
The other demon specifically mentioned within the text above, which I also highlighted in bold is the “screech owl” or Lilith. Lilith is also mentioned within The Chronicles of Narnia, and the final character that I will be discussing.
Lilith
The actual Hebrew word for “screech owl” or in other translations “night creature” is Lilith, meaning a “female night demon”. The white witch, Janis, is said to have descended from Lilith.
This is an excerpt from The Lion, Witch and Wardrobe:
“That’s what I don’t understand, Mr Beaver,” said Peter, “I mean isn’t the Witch herself human?”
“She’d like us to believe it,” said Mr Beaver, “and it’s on that that she bases her claim to be Queen. But she’s no Daughter of Eve. She comes of your father Adam’s” – (here Mr Beaver bowed) “your father Adam’s first wife, her they called Lilith. And she was one of the Jinn. That’s what she comes from on one side. And on the other she comes of the giants. No, no, there isn’t a drop of real human blood in the Witch.”
From the above commentaries, we can see that Lilith, is a night vampire, who appears in the legends of the Talmud as having been Adam’s first wife, who left him and was turned into a demon. With the later Jews, Lilith, as sucking the blood of children, was the bugbear of the nursery. As well as these night creatures being also considered Jinn, which was a common Eastern belief.
According to Encyclopedia Britanica:
Lilith, female demonic figure of Jewish folklore. Her name and personality are thought to be derived from the class of Mesopotamian demons called lilû (feminine: lilītu), and the name is usually translated as “night monster.” A cult associated with Lilith survived among some Jews as late as the 7th century CE. The evil she threatened, especially against children and women in childbirth, was said to be counteracted by the wearing of an amulet bearing the names of certain angels.
In rabbinic literature Lilith is variously depicted as the mother of Adam’s demonic offspring following his separation from Eve or as his first wife. Whereas Eve was created from Adam’s rib (Genesis 2:22), some accounts hold that Lilith was the woman implied in Genesis 1:27 and was made from the same soil as Adam. Insolently refusing to be subservient to her husband, Lilith left Adam and the perfection of the Garden of Eden; three angels tried in vain to force her return. According to some mythologies, her demonic offspring were sired by an archangel named Samael and were not Adam’s progeny. Those children are sometimes identified as incubi and succubi.
This is why another name for Lilith is “mother of all demons”. Within the occult, Lilith is often depicted with horns on her head resembling the character Maleficent from Disney’s Sleeping Beauty. As I mentioned earlier that Jadis, is a representation of the female side of Satan, so is Lilith. Within the occult this is also known as the divine feminine. She is also seen as the serpent in the garden that tempted Eve.
A child hearing that Adam had another wife before Eve, or that another woman was created before Eve would be very confusing to hear. Not to mention these few characters I have mentioned are fashioned directly after demons. C.S. Lewis is entertaining the minds of children with demons and lies from Jewish fables.
There is a reason why the Apostle Paul warned us to stay away from this:
Titus 1:13This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, 14not giving heed to Jewish fables and commandments of men who turn from the truth.
Part IV. Occult Fantasy and Video Games
Moving on from Lewis and Tolkien I want to briefly touch on the aspect of occult fantasy through video games, as the vast majority of all RPG’s (role playing games) and video games in general have the use of magic/sorcery within a fantasy realm.
The very definition of RPG, is role playing, meaning the person playing the game takes on the persona of the character within the game. So, whatever the character does, the person is doing as well. It could be murder, rape, witchcraft, stealing, lying, fornication, idolatry, etc.
They are thinking and acting in place of that character, and while they may not actually do the things that they do within the game outside of it, it gives them a place to act out their fantasy, which they become willing participants, and guilty of the things they are practicing under the character they play.
Yeshua/Jesus made it abundantly clear that what we do in our heart/mind supersedes that what we may/may not do physically.
When we have hate/unwarranted anger in our heart towards another this is viewed as murder (Mat 5:21-22). A person may not have done a physical act of murder against another, but if they have this in their heart by Yah’s/God’s standard, they are guilty as if they had done so.
1 John 3:15Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.
Since the games provide a means of escape from reality, it makes it easier for a person to justify a lack of responsibility and accountability for their actions. Even though they are engaging in both the mind and body, or “acting out” what is being done through the game, many have convinced and deceived themselves that what they are doing is “just a game” or “just innocent fantasy”.
However, what we do with our minds, and hands through video games, brings what we do in a fantasy land to the natural realm and has spiritual consequences. One of the consequences is that they will be overtaken by demonic spirits. These demonic spirits are able to provide a euphoric release to the user through witchcraft, and the result is addiction. This is no different than an illicit drug user and I have seen the demonic effects it has on young children, particularly in young boys.
Any parent allowing their children to engage in this, that is a professing follower of Christ, or an adult that is participating in these games need to repent of these games and throw them away. This is not a light matter, and those who profess to be brothers and sisters in Christ but are partaking in this and refuse to repent, should also be removed from fellowships.
While we want our children to have a healthy imagination and play, what is not ok is allowing them to read, watch or actively engage in occultic fantasy. The writings of both C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien have darkened the minds and hearts of men causing them to exalt witchcraft, demonic folklore, and occultic fantasy over the word of God.
We are told to put down “vain imaginations, that exalt themselves against Christ” (2 Cor 10:5) This means any fantasy which is contrary to the Word of God, must be put down.
2 Cor 10:4The weapons of our warfare are not the weapons of the world. Instead, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5We tear down arguments and every presumption set up against the knowledge of God; and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 6And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, as soon as your obedience is complete
Within Ellicott’s commentary of this passage, he states this pertaining to verse 5:
Against the knowledge of God.—The thoughts of men resist the knowledge of God as the stronghold of rebels resists the armies of the rightful king.
Those who know that magic is wrong but are unwilling to put down mythical/magical lore through occultic fantasy, are resisting the knowledge of God. Instead of demolishing demonic strongholds they are helping build them.
Wonderfully informative post. A breath of fresh air. Thank you sister.
Thank you!
