Blessed Are the Poor in Spirit

November 27, 2015

Yesterday was a real blessing for our family, as we were able to bless many others. Almost 3 years ago when the Lord brought us here to CA, we were confronted with the dire need of homeless and poor that surrounded us. The Lord had placed the scripture verse of Matthew 5:3 ‘Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven’, in my heart and over the years it has continued to give deeper understanding and application.

I will never forget that day in our small apt that we were staying in and the change of heart both Tony and I had concerning the homeless, and the poor. The day that I brought out a simple gospel tract and a bag of rolls to an older man and his girlfriend and as I walked away hear him say how he was so excited that they would have dinner that night, as I stared to tear up, the tears went into wailing, and I fell on my knees and cried out to YHWH, I repented of my unrighteous judgment (based on appearance) and selfishness…I cried and called Tony, and from that day on, we made homeless bags and we would go out and pray, preach the gospel, and just talk with people that society has cast off and dehumanized.

Yesterday we were able to feed and clothe 20 people…the first three men we encountered on the side of the road one was a veteran, and barley had enough on him to keep warm. As Tony was getting him food and clothes and we both provided him a warmer coat, another man came up with just a windbreaker and was freezing cold. I went to the side of the car, and held back tears, and went back and clothed him with another warmer jacket. Then another man, came up and we gave him food, and all of these men were tearing up from the kindness and love we were showing them. It was beautiful.

A few min later we met another man, and he could not eat much because he had no teeth, so we tried to give him things he would be able to gum down. And Tony prayed and talked with him.

Later I remember giving a man a nice sweater, and his eyes just lit up in and he was almost ready to cry, as this man had nothing, and was just moved by a new sweater that day. And everyone that we met was a blessing to meet and to be able to be a blessing to them as well, was worth more then precious metal or stones or any amount of money.

This is my heart. This is our heart. I had the best day along side my husband doing what the Good Shepherd command us to do. I can’t wait to continue on the work that our precious Lord and Savior has for us to do.

Matthew 25:33“And He shall set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.34“Then the Sovereign shall say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the reign prepared for you from the foundation of the world –

35for I was hungry and you gave Me food, I was thirsty and you gave Me drink, I was a stranger and you took Me in,36was naked and you clothed Me, I was sick and you visited Me, I was in prison and you came to Me.’

37“Then the righteous shall answer Him, saying, ‘Master, when did we see You hungry and we fed You, or thirsty and gave You to drink?38‘And when did we see You a stranger and took You in, or naked and clothed You?

39‘And when did we see You sick, or in prison, and we came to You?’40“And the Sovereign shall answer and say to them, ‘Truly, I say to you, in so far as you did it to one of the least of these My brothers, you did it to Me.’

41“He shall then also say to those on the left hand, ‘Go away from Me, accursed ones, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his messengers –42for I was hungry and you gave Me no food, I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink,

43‘I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, was naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’44“Then they also shall answer Him, saying, ‘Master, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not serve You?’

45“Then He shall answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, in so far as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’46“And these shall go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into everlasting life.”

Isaiah 58:7“Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; when you see the naked, and cover him, and not hide yourself from your own flesh?8“Then your light would break forth like the morning, your healing spring forth speedily. And your righteousness shall go before you, the esteem of יהוה would be your rear guard.

James 2:14My brothers, what use is it for anyone to say he has belief but does not have works? This belief is unable to save him.
15And if a brother or sister is naked and in need of daily food,
16but one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and be filled,” but you do not give them the bodily needs, what use is it?
17So also belief, if it does not have works, is in itself dead.
