Deborah, the Righteous Bride, who dwelt under the Palm Tree

Deborah, a prophetess and judge, mentioned in the Book of Judges, typifies the righteous Bride of Messiah; the faithful/sanctified of the Body of Messiah and not some anomaly that gives woman the right or the role to rule or usurp the spiritual authority of the man, which goes directly against YHWH’s divine order.

Judges 4:4And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time. 5And she dwelt under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in mount Ephraim: and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.

Deborah dwelt under the Palm Tree, signifying her(Bride) total reliance on her King(Messiah); as well as the proper judgement that the Body of Messiah is to be doing through the Spirit and power of YHWH, through both men and women.

Acts 2:16“But this is what was spoken by the prophet Yo’ĕl(Joel):
17‘And it shall be in the last days, says Elohim, that I shall pour out of My Spirit on all flesh. And YOUR SONS AND YOUR DAUGHTERS SHALL PROPHESY, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams,
18and also on My male servants and on MY FEMALE SERVANTS  I SHALL POUR OUT MY SPIRIT shall pour out My Spirit in those days, AND THEY SHALL PROPHESY

Now, concerning the palm tree: Not only was it an integral part of the design of the Temple that Solomon built, but also the Feast of Tabernacles, as well as the branches of palms laid before Yeshua’s entry into Jerusalem.

1 Kings 6:29And he carved all the walls of the house round about with carved figures of cherubims and PALM TREES and open flowers, within and without. 30And the floor of the house he overlaid with gold, within and without. 31And for the entering of the oracle he made doors of olive tree: the lintel and side posts were a fifth part of the wall. 32The two doors also were of olive tree; and he carved upon them carvings of cherubims and PALM TREES and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold, and spread gold upon the cherubims, and upon the palm trees.(KJV)

The palm trees were an integral part of the temple, and were part of the doors as well as the walls. The Temple was a foreshadow of Messiah’s Body, and He is the door that we must go through, in order to enter into the Holy of Holies, and into Covenant to have eternal life:

John 10:9“I am the door. Whoever enters through Me, he shall be saved, and shall go in and shall go out and find pasture.

Concerning the Feast of Tabernacles, palm trees were a part of it, and symbolized in a great time of rejoicing before YHWH:

Lev 23:40‘And you shall take for yourselves on the first day the fruit of good trees, branches of PALM TREES, twigs of leafy trees, and willows of the stream, and shall rejoice before יהוה your Elohim for seven days.(ISR 98)

Five days prior to Passover, and the death of Messiah, the people laid palm braches before Him, as He entered into the city, as they rejoiced before the King:

John 12:12On the next day a great crowd who had come to the festival, when they heard that יהושע was coming to Yerushalayim,
13took the branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and were crying out, “Hoshia-na! Blessed is He who is coming in the Name of יהוה, the Sovereign of Yisra’ĕl!”(ISR 98)

I believe this to be quite significant as not only were the palm trees part of the Temple, but as well as the Feast of Tabernacles, as Yeshua Himself came and tabernacled among the people. YHWH became flesh, and the true Tabernacle of Yah was with men.

John 1:14And the Word became flesh, and did tabernacle among us, and we beheld his glory, glory as of an only begotten of a father, full of grace and truth.(YLT)

As one abides in Yeshua, their righteousness in Him, they shall flourish as a palm tree:

Psalm 92:12The righteous one flourishes like a palm tree, He grows like a cedar in Leḇanon.(ISR 98)

Now, as we can see a little more clearly, Deborah the Bride, dwells under Her Husband.

Eph 5:23Because the husband is head of the wife, as also the Messiah is head of the assembly, and He is Saviour of the body.(ISR 98)

So, when we have women usurp the authority of her husband, she also usurps the authority of YHWH(LORD) Yeshua. This will cause immediate discord to the marriage and the household.  This is also true for men who will not properly lead as the head of the household. When we give up our God given roles as male and female, husband and wife, we give up on love for each other, and ultimately love for Yah. The highest form of love, is for a husband to lead his wife, and for a wife to follow. It is the highest form of respect, honor, and love. This is a parallel to how we, as the Bride, are to love our Bridegroom(Husband) that is Messiah.

John 14:15“If you love Me, you shall guard My commands.(ISR 98)

The reason a man will not spiritually lead, is because he does not love to the fullness that Yah has required, and the reason why a woman cannot fully follow or submit, is the same. The fullness of a marriage will not happen without both, nor will the spiritual strength and blessings.

When men and women in the Body of Messiah distort the proper roles and authority between men and women, it perverts Yah’s proper divine authority and is an invitation for Satan to come and reap destruction.

Adam was made in the image and glory of God, and woman was made out of the man, the glory of Adam.  Woman came forth from Man, as such Man was the covering, the spiritual authority, Head of the Woman.

•1 Cor 11:7For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. 8For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. 9Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man. (ISR 98)

Satan lured Eve because Adam was not being her covering, her spiritual head; and, yet, the woman equally guilty, being deceived, because she also usurped not only her husband, but Messiah, lusting after what the serpent had.

•Gen 3:6And the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, and she took of its fruit and ate. And she also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.

•Gen 3:15“And I put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed. He shall crush your head, and you shall crush His heel.”
16To the woman He said, “I greatly increase your sorrow and your conception – bring forth children in pain. **And your desire is for your husband, and he does rule over you.”**

I want to focus on something here, the reason YHWH said this: **And your desire is for your husband, and he does rule over you.”** is because HE WAS REAFFIRMING IT! THIS WAS NOT SOME CURSE…THIS IS PART OF THE DIVINE ORDER and the woman broke it! The woman’s desire fell NO LONGER on her husband but TO THE DESIRE of the serpent.

Together, both Adam and Eve represent the Bride of YHWH. So, likewise, the Bride(His people) no longer desired Her Husband(YHWH), and they traded the simplicity that was in Him, to obey His voice and His commands, and became corrupted/defiled by heeding the voice and the desire of the serpent.

So, why do you think Satan always goes after Marriages?

Because he has done so, from the very beginning. Tempting man and woman to lead them into sin and eventually to destroy the Covenant between YHWH and man, and the covenant between man and woman.

This is all so easily summed up in this following:

2Cor 11:2For I am jealous for you with a jealousy according to Elohim. FOR I GAVE YOU IN MARRIAGE TO ONE HUSBAND, TO PRESENT YOU AS AN INNOCENT(PURE/UNDEFILED) MAIDEN TO MESSIAH.
3BUT I AM AFRAID, LEST, AS THE SERPENT DECEIVED HAWWAH(Eve) BY HIS TRICKERY, SO YOUR MINDS SHOULD BE CORRUPTED FROM THE SIMPLICITY THAT IS IN MESSIAH.

We have a huge issue today of those within the professing Body of Messiah that consist of passive men, and controlling unruly women because neither submit themselves first, to the authority of Yah, and second honor each other in love. Women who have a difficult time submitting to men, is generally, because they were wounded by prominent men in their lives, who were supposed to be their protectors, provider, and covering. Many become prideful, arrogant, and unwilling to submit, because of a lack of trust to Abba for healing, and with their relationship with men.

Eph 5:22Wives, subject yourselves to your own husbands, as to the Master.
23Because the husband is head of the wife, as also the Messiah is head of the assembly, and He is Saviour of the body.
24But as the assembly is subject to Messiah, so also let the wives be to their own husbands in every respect.

25Husbands, love your wives, as Messiah also did love the assembly and gave Himself for it,
26in order to set it apart and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word,
27in order to present it to Himself a splendid assembly, not having spot or wrinkle or any of this sort, but that it might be set-apart and blameless.

28In this way husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
29For no one ever hated his own flesh, but feeds and cherishes it, as also the Master does the assembly.
30Because we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones.

31“For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”
32This secret is great, but I speak concerning Messiah and the assembly.
33However, you too, everyone, let each one love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she fears her husband.(ISR 98)

Just as Messiah takes the hand of His Bride and leads her, saying “Come, follow me”; the Bride grabs hold of her husbands hand and humbly follows.

Yah created men to be the spiritual head of the household, just as He, as the Husband, is the Head of His Bride. He gave us the example; however if husbands cannot love their wives, and wives are unable to receive love from their husbands, then they will not be able to effectively receive love from others, nor will they be able to effectively give love to others…

For one cannot give what they cannot receive.

A Head has to be established in order for a House to be in order.

1 Tim 3:4one who rules his own house well, having his children in subjection with all reverence,
5for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how shall he look after the assembly of Elohim?

One of the greatest gifts a father can give his children, is loving his wife, as Messiah loves His Bride. A husband who can laydown his life for his wife, has laid down his life first before Messiah. One of the highest forms of love for a husband, and a father, is to lead his wife and children into godly submission, and that is only done by example.

Per the divine order that Yah has given, women are to submit to their husbands as they are the spiritual Head(covering). A woman should always have a covering, whether it be her husband, father, an older brother, an uncle, grandfather, etc. As a woman submits to her husband in love, as she does Messiah, then she adorns her husband righteously:

•Proverbs 12:4A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.(KJV)

When women do not submit to their husbands, or are not provided the proper covering, it is a shame to the woman, and liken to a shorn or shaven head.

•1 Cor 11:2Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you. 3But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. 4Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head.

5But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven. 6For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.

Per this passage, the main focus is a spiritual covering, and Paul parallels it between physical representations to hit on a spiritual concept. The understanding of being shorn or shaven is that it goes back to when a woman has committed adultery per Numbers 5:18-19:

Numbers 5:18‘And the priest shall make the woman stand before יהוה, and SHALL UNCOVER THE WOMAN’S HEAD, and put the offering for remembering in her hands, which is the grain offering of jealousy, while the priest holds in his hand the bitter water that brings a curse.
19‘And the priest shall make her swear, and say to the woman, “If no man has lain with you, and if you have not turned aside to uncleanness UNDER YOUR HUSBAND’S AUTHORITY, be free from this bitter water that brings a curse.

The priest shall uncover her head meaning releasing her husband, as to see if she has laid with another man.The spiritual understanding and application of this, is that if a woman is rebellious or not in submission to her husband, it is liken to spiritual adultery to her husband, and she is uncovered/shaven and is a dishonor/disgrace to both her husband, as well as YHWH.  In token that she had forfeited her glory by breaking, or seeming to have broken, her allegiance to her husband.

The case of the shaving of the head was also a disgrace except in regards to the taking of the Nazarite vow in Numbers 6, the only case that it was acceptable for the woman. Even with the transfer of authority during battle and men would take the woman as their wives, they would shave their heads as humbling and a mourning:

Deut 21:12then you shall bring her home to your house, and she shall shave her head and trim her nails,

Now, let us go back and finish up the passage, with hopefully more clarity, as well as look at that a man not ought to have a ‘covering’ over his head, in reference to a woman being over the man, as it was not woman that was made to be the spiritual head, but the man.

1 Cor 11:7For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. 8For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. 9Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man. 10For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.

11Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord. 12For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God. 13Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?

14Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? 15But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering. 16But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.(KJV)

Just as a woman who honors and submits to her husband in love, honor and respect and becomes an adorning crown to him, likewise, as the Bride of Messiah when we love, honor and respect our Bridgeroom. We, through the righteousness of Messiah, and His Spirit, adorn ourselves in clean white linen, and inturn glorify Him. However, when we disobey, or walk in disbelief, then we become the rottenness in the bones and bring shame to His Name, taking it in vain.

•1Peter 3:1Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; 2While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. 3Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

4But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. 5For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: 6Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.

7Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.(KJV)

So, let us be as Deborah, and dwell under the Palm Tree of righteousness, and become a faithful servant to our Husband, and love and honor Him, as we love and honor our spouses, and each other.

Rev 3:19As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. 20Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. (KJV)

♥♥♥Something pretty amazing happened after I had initially finished this blog post, and posted it; so I thought to come back and write about it here. My husband at the time of me publishing this, was out running errands. When he came home, he had in his hand a rose for me, MADE OUT OF A PALM TREE LEAF. He had got it from a man that was making them from a local palm tree outside of a store that he went to.  He initially was not going to get it, but decided to anyway. He was also not aware of all the content that I had written about, pertaining to the palm tree, nor that I had finished it, when he came home. I was so blessed that day, from not only my husband but Abba, as I knew He was pleased with what I had written. I still have this rose, up in our display cabinet, as it was such a beautiful gift from both my husband and our King.
