Circumcision and the Bridegroom of Blood

There are just certain passages in the Scriptures, that have you at somewhat a standstill on the proper meaning until  the right time, the right maturity, and the Spirit gives wisdom and understanding.  It is a passage that you mentally put on the shelf, and await the time to take it down.

The following passage, was at one time such a passage for me, and it wasn’t until about  a year ago until the Spirit gave both my husband and I understanding and we were a bit in awe.

Ex 4:24And it came to be on the way, in the lodging place, that יהוה met him and sought to kill him.
25And Tsipporah took a sharp stone and cut off the foreskin of her son and threw it at Mosheh’s feet, and said, “You are indeed a bridegroom of blood to me!”
26So He let him go. Then she said, “You are a bridegroom of blood,” because of the circumcision.(ISR 98)

This passage always seemed so significant, as it seemed like a thickening part of the story, and then I am left just sitting there in bewilderment on what in the world just happened. Well, it indeed is very significant, as it was a foreshadowing to the MOST EPIC event(s) in HISTORY.

The flesh (veil) that was torn of Messiah’s Body, represented the freshly circumcised Son being thrown at the feet of the Father. It was finished. The flesh was crucified. The old marriage after the flesh was made void. Inheritance back to the land was now made possible through the first-born. The Kinsman Redeemer came in the flesh. A New Marriage after the Spirit was possible.

The Bridegroom represented is Moses, the Father, however we also know that Moses is also a type and a shadow to Yeshua, as he was the mediator of the first covenant to foreshadow Yeshua becoming the mediator of the second.

We know that the Father and Son are One(Joh 10:30), and so thus is also the Bridegroom; there is and has always been One Husband. In both Ketubah’s(covenants) blood was poured out ratifying each covenant; in the first it was the blood of animals, in the second it was by the blood of YHWH Yeshua Himself, thus becoming the ‘Bridegroom of blood’.

His body was ripped and torn for our transgressions and became beyond recognition.

♥Isaiah 53:5But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed.

What Yeshua went through and endured in His death should bring us to a point of reverence and humility, and understand that we are not above what He endured. Circumcision was a process that was done on the most sensitive place of a male, and was a ‘cutting away’ of the flesh. It was a sign of the old covenant and was to bring humility, obedience and reverence to YHWH. Males could not be in the old covenant without being physically circumcised. Likewise, those in the New Covenant, we(both males and females) cannot be in covenant with Him, if we are not crucified with Messiah, a circumcision made without hands and continue to crucify our flesh, becoming sanctified.

Many would like to propose that physical circumcision is still a requirement for the New Covenant, as well as to be able to partake in a Passover Meal, however, this is simply not true…and before anyone has a knee jerk reaction, I will address this a little later…so hang onto your knees for a little while…

While physical circumcision has health benefits, and is still lawful to do, unless someone has been crucified with Messiah and entered the New Covenant, then it is rendered of no value; as a small male child, circumcised on the 8th day, grows up to become a murderer and remains his entire life unrepentant; then no matter how many Passover’s he attends, he will die in his sins. We see this comparison with Paul:

Acts 22:3I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and TAUGHT ACCORDING TO THE PERFECT MANNER OF THE LAW OF THE FATHERS, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day. 4AND I PERSECUTED THIS WAY UNTO THE DEATH, BINDING AND DELIVERING INTO PRISONS BOTH MEN AND WOMEN. 5As also the high priest doth bear me witness, and all the estate of the elders: from whom also I received letters unto the brethren, and went to Damascus, to bring them which were there bound unto Jerusalem, for to be punished.(KJV)

For what did it profit Paul, a Pharisee, born of a physical lineage, a Hebrew of Hebrews, circumcised on the 8th day? Who trusted in the flesh? Did it make him righteous, or just obedient to dead works?

Phil 3:3FOR WE ARE THE CIRCUMCISION, WHO ARE SERVING ELOHIM IN THE SPIRIT, and boasting in Messiah יהושע, and DO NOT TRUST IN THE FLESH,4though I too might have trust in the flesh. IF ANYONE ELSE THINKS TO TRUST IN THE FLESH, I MORE –

5CIRCUMCISED THE EIGHTH DAY, of the race of Yisra’ĕl, of the tribe of Binyamin, a Heḇrew of Heḇrews, according to Torah a Pharisee,6according to ardour, PERSECUTING THE ASSEMBLY; according to righteousness that is in the law, having become blameless.

7But what might have been a gain to me, I have counted as loss, because of Messiah.8What is more, I even count all to be loss because of the excellence of the knowledge of Messiah יהושע my Master, for whom I have suffered the loss of all, and count them as refuse, in order to gain Messiah,

9and be FOUND IN HIM, NOT HAVING MY OWN RIGHTEOUSNESS, WHICH IS OF THE LAW, BUT THAT WHICH IS THROUGH BELIEF IN MESSIAH, THE RIGHTEOUSNESS WHICH IS FROM ELOHIM ON THE BASIS OF BELIEF, 10to know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,(ISR 98)

Paul was obedient to the letter of the law, finding his righteousness in only the law, and not by which the righteousness of the law came, through faith in Yeshua. He persecuted the Body of Messiah, believing what he was doing was righteous, but was held in bondage under sin, and was a murderer. What did his physical lineage, and physical circumcision, and obedience to the law in the flesh avail? Nothing. It was all nothing without Messiah. Paul knew that outward adornment, circumcision of the mere physical flesh had no power to change the heart.

♦Romans 3:21But now, apart from the Torah, A RIGHTEOUSNESS OF ELOHIM HAS BEEN REVEALED, BEING WITNESSES BY THE TORAH AND THE PROPHETS, 22AND THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF ELOHIM IS THROUGH BELIEF IN יהושע (Yeshua/Jesus) Messiah to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference, 23for all have sinned and fall short of the esteem of Elohim,

24BEING DECLARED RIGHT, WITHOUT PAYING, by His favour(grace) through the redemption which is in Messiah יהושע,
25whom Elohim set forth as an atonement, through belief in His blood, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His tolerance Elohim had passed over the sins that had taken place before,
26TO DEMONSTRATE AT THE PRESENT TIME HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS, THAT HE IS RIGHTEOUS AND DECLARES RIGHTEOUS THE ONE WHO HAS BELIEF IN יהושע(Yeshua/Jesus)

27Where, then, is the boasting? It is shut out. By what Torah? Of works? No, but by the Torah of belief.
28For we reckon that a man is declared right by belief without works of Torah.
29Or is He the Elohim of the Yehuḏim only, and not also of the gentiles? Yea, of the gentiles also,
30since it is one Elohim who shall DECLARE RIGHT THE CIRCUMCISED BY BELIEF AND THE UNCIRCUMCISED THROUGH BELIEF.  (ISR 98)

♦Rom 2:28For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; NEITHER IS THAT CIRCUMCISION, WHICH IS OUTWARD IN THE FLESH: 29But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, IN THE SPIRIT, AND NOT IN THE LETTER; whose praise is not of men, but of God.(KJV)

So, can a man can be righteous in both physical and spiritual circumcision, yes indeed, however, if his circumcised heart becomes of the uncircumcision, then his physical circumcision is of no value.

This leads me to the whole purpose of physical circumcision and of the people of the “circumcision”. They were to be a set-apart people, a holy nation, and were a foreshadow to us(both men and women)crucifying the flesh, becoming crucified with Messiah and becoming a holy, set apart people and nation. A Temple built and knit together through living stones. A living, breathing, Body…The Living Temple.

♦1 Peter 2:4To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, 5Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

♦1 Peter 2:9But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: 10Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

When the veil of the earthly temple was torn, so was the body of Messiah, signifying the end of an earthly covenant built on a perishable foundation, to a spiritual covenant built on an eternal foundation with better promises and a temple that neither crumbles or fades by the workings of mere mans hands.

Hebrews 10:19So, brothers, having boldness to enter into the Set-apart Place by the blood of יהושע,
20BY A NEW AND LIVING WAY which He instituted for us, THROUGH THE VEIL, THAT IS, HIS FLESH, (ISR 98)

Abraham, our father of faith received the seal of righteousness, that of faith, before he was physically circumcised. Likewise, when we believe in faith, and repent, we are then circumcised by the circumcision of Messiah, putting off the flesh of the sinful body.

Romans 4:7“Blessed are those whose lawlessnesses are forgiven, and whose sins are covered, 8blessed is the man to whom יהוה shall by no means reckon sin.”

9IS THIS BLESSING THEN UPON THE CIRCUMCISED ONLY, OR ALSO UPON THE UNCIRCUMCISED? For we affirm: BELIEF WAS RECKONED UNTO ABRAHAM FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS. 10How then was it reckoned? Being in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.

11AND HE RECEIVED THE SIGN OF CIRCUMCISION, A SEAL OF RIGHTEOUSNESS OF THE BELIEF while in uncircumcision, for him to be a father of all those believing through uncircumcision, for righteousness to be reckoned to them also,

12and the father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also walk in the steps of the belief which our father Aḇraham had in uncircumcision.(ISR 98)

The true “Circumcision” are those who have crucified their flesh with Messiah, and walk by faith. This is why it was a foreshadow, as it then pertains to ALL persons, not just males.

♦Col 2:11In Him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, IN PUTTING OFF OF THE BODY OF THE SINS OF THE FLESH, BY THE CIRCUMCISION OF MESSIAH, 12having been buried with Him in immersion, in which you also were raised with Him through the belief in the working of Elohim, who raised Him from the dead.

13AND YOU, BEING DEAD IN YOUR TRESPASSES AND THE UNCIRCUMCISION OF YOUR FLESH, HE HAS MADE ALIVE TOGETHER with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses,14having blotted out the certificate of debt against us – by the dogmas – which stood against us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the stake.(ISR 98)

Phil 3:3FOR WE ARE THE CIRCUMCISION, WHO ARE SERVING ELOHIM IN THE SPIRIT, and boasting in Messiah יהושע, and DO NOT TRUST IN THE FLESH,

Now, I would like to go over Acts 15:1-12, and it is at this time I will address that physical circumcision is not a requirement for the New Covenant, as well as to be able to partake in a Passover Meal.  So, according to the Law of Moses under the Old Covenant of the Flesh(Ishmael) you had to be physically circumcised in order to be in that covenant(Gen 17:9-14, Lev 12:3); as well to partake in the Passover(Ex 12:48). This was not a tradition of man, but you had to actually be physically circumcised. It was a sign of that covenant. This is why they are referred to as the “Circumcision” within many of the epistles. However, this was a foreshadow, from shadow to substance.

I will briefly go over Gen 17:9-14, and then proceed onto Acts 15.

So, at the time that this covenant of the circumcision was made, Ishmael had already been born.  Issac had not, but was to be born according to the appointed time the following year, and was made clear that the promises/covenant would go to Issac and not Ishmael.(Gen 17:21) So, this covenant was made to the sons of the covenant after the flesh, which is why in verse 13 it says IN YOUR FLESH for an everlasting covenant. Well, as we have seen and will continue to see, the FLESH was crucified. The circumcision of the flesh is still a requirement, but of our fleshly/sinful nature, not an abundance of male foreskins.

**Interesting note about this is the same appointed time or what is called Mo idem, generally referring to Yah’s Feast Days, is when the appointed time came for the Spirit to be poured out and when the Promise was given and Issac born from above was born, on Pentecost**

Gen 17:9And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations. 10This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised. 11And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you. 12And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed. 13He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. 14And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.(KJV)

So, we head over to Acts, now, if you have read some of my teachings before, or are a little familiar with the Scriptures, you will know that the Spirit was poured out in Acts 2, as the disciples were told by Yeshua to wait until they received power from on high and receive the promise. This was the appointed time of the Feast of Pentecost, which is also when the Nation of Issac was born. So, The Passover Lamb was slain, CRUCIFIED, was buried and resurrected, and the promise of the Spirit was given.

Acts 15: 1Then some men came down from Judea and were teaching the brothers, “Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.” (Which is true, according to that marriage covenant, males had to be circumcised-Lev 12:3)

2So Paul and Barnabas engaged these men in sharp debate. The two of them were appointed, along with some other believers, to go up to Jerusalem to see the apostles and elders about this question.

3Sent on their way by the church, they passed through Phoenicia and Samaria, recounting the conversion of the Gentiles and bringing great joy to all the brothers. 4On their arrival in Jerusalem, they were welcomed by the church and apostles and elders, to whom they reported all that God had done through them.

5But some believers from the party of the Pharisees stood up and declared, “The Gentiles must be circumcised and required TO OBEY THE LAW OF MOSES.” 6So the apostles and elders met to look into this matter.

7After much discussion, Peter got up and said to them, “BROTHERS, YOU KNOW THAT IN THE EARLY DAYS, GOD MADE A CHOICE AMONG YOU THAT THE GENTILES WOULD HEAR FROM MY LIPS THE MESSAGE OF THE GOSPEL AND BELIEVE.

8AND GOD, WHO KNOWS THE HEART, SHOWED HIS APPROVAL BY GIVING THE HOLY SPIRIT TO THEM, JUST AS HE DID US. 9HE HAS CLEANSED THEIR HEARTS BY FAITH.
10Now then, why do you test God by placing on the necks of the disciples a yoke that neither we nor our fathers have been able to bear?

11On the contrary, we believe it is through the grace of the Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are.”
12The whole assembly fell silent as they listened to Barnabas and Paul describing the signs and wonders God had done among the Gentiles through them.(BSB)

As such, the men that were being spoken of in Acts 15, had been ALREADY circumcised, not by human hands, but that of the SEAL OF CIRCUMCISION through faith!  Just as father ABRAHAM! They were crucified with Messiah, and received the SEAL of the HOLY SPIRIT(Eph 1:13).  So, thus by perfecting the law(Rom 2:25-27) did not need to be physically circumcised. For when a person who has been crucified with Messiah, and become circumcised without hands has already partook of the Passover, through the crucified flesh of Messiah.

Rom 2:25For circumcision indeed profits if you practise the Torah, BUT IF YOU ARE A TRANSGRESSOR OF THE TORAH, YOUR CIRCUMCISION HAS BECOME UNCIRCUMCISION.

26So, if an UNCIRCUMCISED ONE WATCHES OVER THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF THE TORAH(RIGHTEOUSNESS BY BELIEF), shall not his uncircumcision be reckoned as circumcision? (CIRCUMCISION MADE WITHOUT HANDS/CRUCIFIED WITH MESSIAH/COL 2:11-13)

27AND THE UNCIRCUMCISED BY NATURE, WHO PERFECTS TORAH, SHALL JUDGE YOU WHO NOTWITHSTANDING LETTER(LETTER OF THE LAW) AND CIRCUMCISION ARE A TRANSGRESSOR OF THE TORAH!(ISR 98)

This by no means, takes away the partaking in the physical Passover, as not only did Yeshua teach us to do so, and taught the disciples, but we are also told to ‘keep the feast'(1 Cor 5:8) through the writings of Paul. It it is also documented, that early church all celebrated Passover(Polycarp, and leading bishops in churches of Asia Minor 1st cent, also 2nd cent often called Quartodecimans), until things drastically started to change around the 4th century, and replacing Passover with Easter.  This, however, shows that through His flesh and blood of the New Covenant, we already partake in Him as the Passover, as He has passed over us, and forgiven our transgressions.

Mat 26:26While they were eating, Jesus took bread, spoke a blessing and broke it, and gave it to the disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is My body.”

27Then He took the cup, gave thanks and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”(BSB)

♦John 6:47Truly, truly, I tell you, he who believes has eternal life. 48I am the bread of life. 49Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, yet they died. 50This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that anyone may eat of it and not die. 51I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And this bread, which I will give for the life of the world, is My flesh.”

52At this, the Jews began to argue among themselves, “How can this man give us His flesh to eat?”

53So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh and drink the blood of the Son of Man, you have no life in you. 54Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55For My flesh is real food, and My blood is real drink.

56Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood remains in Me, and I in him. 57Just as the living Father sent Me and I live because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on Me will live because of Me. 58This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your fathers, who ate the manna and died, the one who eats this bread will live forever.”(BSB)

It is those who are of the belief, that have been born again of the Spiritual SEED, that have been crucified with Messiah, and walk in His Spirit, that are those of the circumcision. This is truly what it means to be crucified in flesh, and spirit, and brings me to a following ending passage, as well as the fulfillment of it:

Jeremiah 9:25″Behold, the days are coming,” declares the LORD(YHWH), “that I WILL PUNISH ALL WHO ARE CIRCUMCISED AND YET UNCIRCUMCISED

FULFILLMENT IN:

Rom 2:25For circumcision indeed profits if you practise the Torah, BUT IF YOU ARE A TRANSGRESSOR OF THE TORAH, YOUR CIRCUMCISION HAS BECOME UNCIRCUMCISION. 26So, if an UNCIRCUMCISED ONE WATCHES OVER THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF THE TORAH, shall not his uncircumcision be reckoned as circumcision?

27AND THE UNCIRCUMCISED BY NATURE, WHO PERFECTS TORAH, SHALL JUDGE YOU WHO NOTWITHSTANDING LETTER AND CIRCUMCISION ARE A TRANSGRESSOR OF THE TORAH!

For indeed YHWH did, and is still punishing those who abide in the flesh; for it is not the flesh we walk or abide in, but the Spirit, and the true circumcision that matters is the inward, and the putting off the flesh. Those who boast in the flesh, make a good show in the flesh; for if they crucified the flesh, then in the cross they would boast. Outward obedience to an uncircumcised heart leads to lawlessness; just as outward disobedience to an uncircumcised heart leads to lawlessness. Both will lead to death.

♦Gal 6:12As many as desire to make a fair shew in the flesh, THEY CONSTRAIN YOU TO BE CIRCUMCISED; ONLY LEST THEY SHOULD SUFFER PERSECUTION FOR THE CROSS OF CHRIST 13For neither they themselves who are circumcised keep the law; but desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh. 14But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. 15FOR IN CHRIST JESUS(YESHUA) NEITHER CIRCUMCISION AVAILETH ANY THING, NOR UNCIRCUMCISION, BUT A NEW CREATURE.

So, let us boast in the cross of Messiah Yeshua, our “Bridegroom of Blood” who gave His life for us, and continue to crucify our flesh, and offer our living sacrifice at the feet of the Father.
